1884, the refined restaurant of the Escorihuela Winery in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, was born in 1996 from the joint imagination of the winemaker Nicolas Catena Zapata and the prestigious chef Francis Mallmann. The aim? Pay tribute to the Andean General kitchen and the wines from Mendoza in particular. The restaurant, appointment gourmet must for tourism in Mendoza, owes its name to the year of Foundation of the Bodegas Escorihuela, in an area which at the time was full field and today form part of the conglomerate of the city of Mendoza. For the decoration of the place we sought to respect as much as possible the ancient charm of the original building. Original checkerboard floors and beautiful turquoise opaline Italian chandeliers were preserved as well. The walls are colored with Andean lands so that they would take the warm purple hue of delicate wines of the region.

In the main hall, vip room and bar Queen a carefully sought silence to offer guests the ideal setting for a culinary experience that can be enjoyed with the 5 senses. The cuisine of 1884 seeks to recreate the merger of Inca roots and European cuisine of immigration that is at the very origin of the Mendoza gastronomy. All, with the experimental and creative touch that restless chefs can not be deprived. But is not in any case an upstart cuisine, but a kitchen of one, say, simple sophistication. The House is proud to specialize in the cooking outdoors with all the techniques of fire: furnace of clay, infiernillo, embers, Grill, plate, Rod and BBQ. The clay oven is powered exclusively to fire of vine shoots. 1884 Kitchen seeks to recreate the more simple and artisanal cooking penetrating into their secrets to extract the secret Alchemy of flavors.

The tribute to the wines of Mendoza is embodied in the extraordinary wine cellar with more than 12000 bottles and 600 labels of wines. However, in recognition of the contribution of France as a nation pioneer of wine refinement, some selected representatives of mythical harvests of Bordeaux or Burgundy can be found there. The avowed desire for the restaurant, in which wines and tastings are concerned, it is breaking with the trend to a single and universal palate in respect of wines that is recorded in recent years. And prompts, boldly, a wine must be nothing less than a reflection of the thinking of a man or a woman. A proposed different gourmet. Another must-see for tourism in Mendoza.
